BASINGSTOKE ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY Minutes of meeting held on March 9th 2007 Venue: Cliddesden Primary School Apologies: Welcome: The Chairman, Dave Shave-Wall welcomed all. As the weather was favourable the first part of the meeting was given to observing. The planets Venus and Saturn were seen along with M45, M42, M44, The Double Cluster and other objects of interest. Several members provided telescopes. Coffee Item: The Chairman, Dave Shave-Wall gave a beginner’s talk about the Asteroids and Jupiter. Admin: John Stapleton has given a lecture to the Lewes Astronomers. The forthcoming Messier Marathon planned for 16th March was discussed and arrangements were finalised. Brendan Shaw is to make the Go/NoGo decision on the day. The Total Eclipse of the Moon evening was very successful with several members getting images. The space evening for Yr6 is to be held on 23rd March. Help appreciated. The Secretary has received the Bill for the hire of the school which now attracts VAT.
