BASINGSTOKE ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY Meeting held at Cliddesden Primary School on 26th May 2005 Apologies Sarah Masters, Helen Mountstephens The Chairman opened with his usual welcome to all present. July Meeting Members were reminded that the July meeting is to take the form of a barbeque to be held at Nick Hudson’s house. Details of how to get to Nick’s are on his web page (nickhudson@trutek-uk.com) Members are asked to fill in the form provided so that numbers can be estimated, and to indicate what foodstuffs they will be bringing. AGM Members are reminded that nominations for a new Committee member should be submitted in writing (e-mail is acceptable) before next month’s meeting. Main Event The chairman introduced Steve Harris from Newbury Amateur Astronomical Society. Steve gave a very interesting presentation entitled ‘Light the messenger from the stars’. This included the nature and properties of light and the information given by it. The Chairman gave Steve a vote of thanks, and members showed their appreciation in the usual way. Starwatch Andria Harbinson gave her last Starwatch presentation for June And July. From September this duty will go the newly elected committee member. Other presentations Dave Shave-Wall gave a fascinating short talk ‘The Beginners Guide to the Very Small’ about atoms. This also tied in with some of the information given by Steve Harris in his presentation. Brendan Shaw gave a short talk on ‘How to Make your Telescope ‘Bigger’, He also showed some of the images he has captured with the aid of a Stellacam. Both members were given a vote of thanks from the chairman. Next Meeting The next meeting will be the second Annual General Meeting and will be held on 23rd June at Cliddesden Primary School. Close
