Main Meeting August 23rd 2007

Open:  The Chairman welcomed all.

Minutes: The draft minutes of the previous meetings have been published on the website.

Apologies: Michelle Palfrey, Bob Trevan, Brendan Shaw.

Main Item: Mark Radice gave an informative and inspiring talk on binocular astronomy pointing out that they are not just for beginners use.
Questions and discussion followed.

The Chairman thanked the Speaker.

Coffee:

Admin.: The BBQ is to be re-arranged for Saturday 1st September.
The secretary will be attending the Herstmonceux event as one of the volunteers manning the SAGAS stand.

What’s Up?:  Perseids update.  John Stapleton and Dave Shave-Wall reported on the Perseid watch activities and the number of meteors observed by members over the weekend.

News:  The Chairman shared news about the safe return of Shuttle mission STS 118 despite the problems it experienced.
