Main Meeting July 26th 2007
Venue: Cliddesden Primary School

Open:  Dave Shave Wall, the Chairman was delayed, so Bob Trevan (Vice Chair.) opened the meeting.

Minutes: The draft minutes of the previous meetings have been published on the website.

Apologies: None received.

Main Item: Alan Lorrain “The Sun and our Understanding”.  Alan gave a fact-filled description of our current understanding of our nearest star. Questions and Discussion followed.

The Chairman had arrived and thanked the Speaker.

Coffee:

Admin.: The BBQ is to be re-arranged for Saturday 1st September.
The Secretary had received notification of a star party being organised at Romsey by the Hampshire Ghost Society!!

News: The Chairman shared some items he had gleaned.  Spitzer image of a planetary disc in a quadruple system, Opportunity is in danger because of violent dust storms on Mars, a new moon of Saturn has been discovered, Hubble/Keck image of the Blue Needle – a dust disc seen edge-on.

What’s Up?: Brendan Shaw discussed the forthcoming Perseid Meteor Watch on August 11th.  Bob Trevan will co-ordinate.
Guy Hurst invited members to observe the variable star R Corona Borealis which is behaving strangely.
