Main Meeting September 27th 2007 (Season 4)
Venue: Cliddesden Primary School

Open:  The Chairman being late the VC, Bob Trevan welcomed all.

Minutes: The draft minutes of the previous meetings have been published on the website.

Apologies: Chester Bates.  Dave Shave-Wall apologised for tardiness due to work commitments.

Health and Safety: The Secretary described the fire exits and fire drill.

Main Item: Robin Gorman of Hants. Astronomy Group.  “Our Vital Moon”.  The speaker outlined the currently accepted theory of moon formation and contrasted it to prior theories.  The current theory helps to explain the importance of the moon’s role in the evolution of the Earth and its consequences for life on the planet.  A very interesting and entertaining talk.
Questions and discussion followed.

The Chairman thanked the Speaker.

Coffee:

Admin.:  The Secretary went through the programme planned for the year for the benefit of the large number of visitors at the meeting.

What’s Up?:  Andria Harbinson described the sights of the night sky for the coming month.

News:  The Chairman shared news about new views of the equatorial ridge on Iapetus and Caves on Mars.
